What is GERD?
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when acid from the stomach frequently flows backwards into the food pipe connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the inner lining of your esophagus.
The primary abnormality in GERD lies not in abnormal reflux of stomach acid into esophagus and not in over secretion of stomach acid.
